Relationship is the Way!  Pray with Jesus’ Baptism in Matthew 3:13-17 and imagine yourself in John’s position.

Right before the temptations in the desert, Jesus was baptized.  Jesus desired to be baptized.  Even though He did not need baptism in the same way we need it, Jesus shows us by example how to enter deeper relationship with the Father by paying attention to the desires of our hearts and finding God’s will for us there.

  • “John tried to prevent him”… (do we try to prevent Jesus by rejecting that God desires a deep relationship with us?)

  • John said, “I need to be baptized by you”… (acknowledge your deepest need, your greatest desire before Jesus and tell Him about it.)

Notice how Jesus initiates this relationship with us – comes after us – invites our participation in the mystery – to draw us into the loving communion of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and the Church.

  • Jesus tells us, “Allow it for now…” (allow Him to love you right where you are, even in your struggle with sin, so that He can save you and bring you to Himself)

Our Response to God’s loving initiative with us is to just to let your prayer become very relational.  Choose to allow Jesus to come close to you in relationship and tell him about your desires.  You will be amazed at what He speaks into your heart.
